Sumi-e techniques. As few brush strokes as possible. Working the brush (sideways, upwards, dragging). Every line is one brush stroke, including the one on top of its head. That was done from left to right.
Sumi-e starts with the eyes and generally expresses outlines and movements, not so much shadows as Western watercolour and ink art tends to do. The two strokes at the bottom are, therefor, not really sumi-e. They tend to be negative space and that’s not something regularly expressed in sumi-e.
